JOB DUTIES : The Women’s Health Services is concerned with all phases of nursing care involving prenatal, delivery, postpartum care, and newborn care; provides education in women’s health issues such as lactation and birthing education. After cross-training to the OR, OB nurses can scrub and/or circulate for repeat C-sections, if the census allows.
The Registered Professional Nurse coordinates nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with other staff and departments in maintaining standards of nursing care; follows established policies, procedures or specific instructions. Incumbents of this position may be required to work shifts, weekends and holidays.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
EDUCATION: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.
NURSING
EXPERIENCE:
One-half (1/2) year of progressively responsible professional nursing work experience where the employee independently provided nursing care to patients in an acute care hospital. Such experience must have been gained within the last two (2) years
QUALITY OF
EXPERIENCE:
Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.
LICENSE
REQUIRED:
Possession of a current license to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.
CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Workers is required at the time of appointment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications are required within six months of employment. Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab work, Emotional Support (STABLE) and Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring is preferred.
For certain positions, possession of a motor vehicle operator's license is required.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED:
KNOWLEDGE OF: Nursing theory and practice; biological, physical, social and medicinal sciences as related to nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and developments in nursing.
ABILITY TO: Apply nursing theory and practices to planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patient's condition and take appropriate action; direct the work of nursing assistants; work effectively and cooperatively with patients, family members, medical staff and employees.
