Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Medical Surgical (Med-Surg)

Provide direct patient care in a hospital med-surg unit under supervision of a registered nurse. The role includes assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring patient status, and supporting the care plan on a general inpatient unit.

The position supports inpatient medical/surgical services and contributes to efficient unit operations and patient recovery.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with activities of daily living, hygiene, mobility, and feeding as needed.
  • Take and document vital signs and report significant changes to the nurse.
  • Support patient transport, accuchek of equipment, and room turnover between patients.
  • Assist with basic procedures and specimen collection under supervision.
  • Document care activities and progress notes in the electronic health record.
Qualifications

Education:

Completion of a state-approved CNA training program.

Licensure:

Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of practice.

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience or Skills:

Experience in inpatient medical-surgical settings; comfort with rotating patient assignments and documentation.

Experience
  • Experience providing direct care in a hospital med-surg unit.
  • Experience with basic nursing tasks and charting in an EMR.
Preferred
  • Experience with post-surgical patients or Foley catheter care.
  • Familiarity with hospital protocols and patient safety initiatives.
Work Environment

Work in a hospital med-surg unit alongside RNs, patient care technicians, and physicians. The environment is variable in acuity, with emphasis on timely assessments and patient safety. Documentation is performed in the hospital EMR, and shifts may include day, evening, night, and weekend coverage.

Team-based care with a focus on patient comfort, mobility, and support for routine medical care.
