JOB DUTIES :

The function of this organizational unit is to manage the daily operations of the hospital, to carry out the hospital’s objectives of caring for the sick and injured, furthering scientific knowledge, promoting community health, and representing the hospital in the community.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide outcome-oriented patient care with an appropriate length of stay, use appropriate resources based on specific case types, promote the integration and coordination of clinical services, monitor the use of patient care resources, support collaborative practice and continuity of care, and enhance patient and provider satisfaction. This position may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

BASIC

EDUCATION:

For nursing positions, applicants must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing. Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing. BSN preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Applicants must have shown progressively responsible work experience of the kind and quality described below:

  REQUIRED:
  
  One and one-half (1 ½) years of progressively responsible professional nursing work experience in an acute care setting where the employee provided case management to a wide range of patients. Such experience must have been gained within the last two (2) years.
• SUPERVISORY APTITUDE: For Registered Professional Nurse IV, applicants must have demonstrated possession of supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader; previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory or administrative capabilities exist;
  
  by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one year of nursing experience.

LICENSE

REQUIRED:

License to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.

Certification:
Certified professional in Utilization Review or Case Management preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

REQUIRED:

Knowledge of nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and development in nursing; biological, physical, social and medicinal sciences as related to nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures. Knowledge of JCAHO requirements, and those of other federal, state, or private regulatory/review organizations with which the hospital interacts. Ability to plan and schedule the work of others and utilize the principles and practices of supervision.
