Position: Head Start Teach Aide (Full Year)

Position Summary

The Teacher Aide is responsible for providing teacher support in the classroom. The Teacher Aide also provides a safe, pleasant, active learning, and problem‑solving environment. The Teacher Aide is responsible to, and under the direct supervision of, the Center Director.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure duties are complete if the Teacher Assistant is absent.
  • Assist in classroom management and lesson planning/implementation.
  • Assist in implementation of child outcomes.
  • Assist in implementation of the curriculum including active learning and practices that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Assist in the implementation of oral health practices.
  • Implement CLASS objectives for improving teacher‑child interactions and effectively supporting children’s social and academic development.
  • Be actively engaged in all Head Start activities and model appropriate behavior.
Tasks and Duties
  • Assist in daily classroom activities and provide classroom support.
  • Document and report child abuse and neglect if observed first hand.
  • Assist with completion of Child Development Plans, if applicable.
  • Assist in ensuring ongoing and end of the year transition activities occur.
  • Assist in tracking daily attendance and enter data into data system, if requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Center Director, Head Start/Early Head Start Director.
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Required Skills
  • Experience teaching preschool-age children in a child care environment.
  • Model appropriate and professional behavior.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the general public and agency employees.
Schedule/Hours

37 hours per week for 52 weeks per year. Approximate hours are 8:00 am – 3:15 pm, Monday-Friday.

Pay Rate

The starting rate of pay is $16.04.
