Position SummaryThe Teacher is responsible for direct contact with infants/toddlers in the classroom, providing developmentally appropriate activities on a daily basis, challenging them at their level, and encouraging success for all students. The Teacher also provides through experiences and opportunities, the ability for children to develop curiosity, initiative, problem‑solving, skills and creativity.
Responsibilities- Provide experiences and opportunities, the ability for children to develop curiosity, initiative, problem‑solving, skills and creativity, as well as a sense of self and feeling of belonging to the group.
- Ensure implementation of curriculum which includes active learning and practices that are developmentally appropriate.
- Ensure initial and mid-year home visits, along with two parent/staff conferences are complete.
- Ensure classroom management and lesson planning/implementation.
- Ensure implementation of oral health practices.
- Be actively engaged in all Early Head Start activities and model appropriate behavior.
- Track daily attendance.
- Ensure completion of developmental and social emotional screenings.
- Ensure speech screenings and child growth assessments are completed.
- Ensure the playground is a safe environment.
- Attend annual center open house.
- Update center inventory annually.
- Minimum requirement is a Child Development Associate (CDA).
- Experience with infants is preferred.
- Individuals who have a minimum of a High School Diploma and commit to obtaining a CDA (Child Development Associate) may be considered.
- Additional compensation is available for candidates with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Early Head Start families, other agency employees and the general public.
- Ability to provide leadership to classroom staff, parents/guardians and classroom volunteers.
- Model appropriate and professional behavior.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
40 hours per week. This position is scheduled for the full year. Scheduled hours are generally between 7:15 am – 3:15 pm, Monday‑Friday. There may be occasional afternoon events, which are scheduled in advance.
Pay Rate$16.12 - $25.05 per hour. Starting wage will depend on education and experience. Individuals who have a minimum of a High School Diploma and commit to obtaining a CDA (Child Development Associate), would start as a Teacher Assistant at an entry wage of $16.12. Additional compensation is available once the CDA process begins and is completed.
