Summary

The early childhood teacher is responsible for providing a developmentally appropriate education environment. He/She is responsible for the classroom operation. Major responsibilities include appropriate interactions with children, and communication with parents.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide a friendly and safe environment that encourages and meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both the individual and the group.
  • Interact appropriately with the students and to encourage their involvement in activities.
  • Create daily lesson plans based upon the Missouri Learning Standards. To provide differentiated instruction based on the needs of the students.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments.
  • Establish and maintain good written and verbal communication with parents on a daily basis as necessary, through monthly newsletters, and through scheduled conferences.
  • Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior. To report other classroom needs to appropriate individuals.
  • Use developmentally appropriate practices and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Supervise, support and evaluate paraprofessionals as required. To keep paraprofessionals informed of all program goals and developments.
  • Prepare materials and paperwork as required by program needs.
  • Understand and be able to demonstrate compliance with Accreditation and Licensing Criteria.
  • Conducts home visits for the purpose of counseling students and parents in improving student performance and problem‑solving techniques.
  • Serves as regular education representative for meetings with multiple staff, team members, and parents (e.g., evaluations port meetings, IEP meetings. etc.) for the purpose of providing and interpreting test results to determine eligibility.
  • Supervisory Duties

    Qualifications Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood/elementary education or related area.
  • Continued education and/or professional development as required by program policy and accreditation criteria.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Missouri State Teaching Certificate Early Childhood
  • Skills and Abilities

    Language

    An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

    Read, analyze, and interpret journals, Board Policy, administrative procedures and forms, and government regulations and guidelines. Complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence with parents. Present information effectively and respond to questions. Write clear and complete lesson plans.

    Computation

    An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

    Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning

    An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

    Solve a variety of problems in many situations. Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.

    Technology

    An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

    Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. Use district software for recording grades and finding student information. Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.
