Summary

GENERAL

SUMMARY:

Performs interventional radiology and invasive cardiology procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses radiologic technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.

Principal Job Functions

  • Assists Interventional Radiologist or Cardiologist in all types of procedures performed with angiography, fluoroscopy and ultrasound.
  • Practices radiation and laser safety for patients, staff and self.
  • Uses sterile technique as required.
  • Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors. Records, analyzes and documents clinical patient information; recognizes and communicates arrhythmias; monitors arterial and/or venous pressure lines.
  • Functions in the first scrub role by preparing, organizing and anticipating needed instruments, supplies and equipment for safe patient care for interventional radiology and invasive cardiology procedures.
  • Competently operates all radiology equipment and support systems to include EMR, Scheduling System and PACS.
  • Utilizes hospital and department computer systems, files and PACS to review patient history and to provide accurate documentation of studies to include patient clinical information.
  • Properly cares for and images patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care; shares pertinent information regarding patient conditions with physicians, nurses and other professional staff as needed for patient care.
  • Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
  • Provides information to patients and families to reduce anxiety and convey an attitude of acceptance, sensitivity and caring.
  • Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required. Initiates problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with peers.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
  • Keeps work area properly supplied.
  • Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.
  • Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient’s growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
  • Knowledge of radiologic positioning, use of technical factors, and radiation safety practices.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to radiography.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology related to interventional radiology and invasive cardiology procedures.
  • Knowledge of techniques and supplies required for interventional procedures.
  • Skill in operating radiologic equipment, image capture devices, PACS, and other related systems.
  • Ability to react appropriately and perform work effectively under stressful and emergent situations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment related to changing patient conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.
  • Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

  • Education and Experience

    Graduate from a school of radiologic technology with current certification or eligibility for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. Valid Nebraska state medical radiographer license required.

    Other Credentials / Certifications
