Registered Nurse - PCU (Stepdown) – UHC Staffing Registered Nurse - PCU (Stepdown)

Location: Kearney, NE

Start Date: 02-16-2026

End Date: 05-18-2026

Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour nights, 6:30 PM - 6:30 AM, every-other-weekend required; minimum of 2 holidays during the contract (Night shift)

Hours per Week: 36

Candidate Pay Rate: $65 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care for adult PCU/Stepdown patients
  • Titrate and manage vasoactive and other drips (Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin) safely and per protocol
  • Assess and manage patients with arterial lines and advanced monitoring
  • Read and interpret telemetry strips and respond to arrhythmias and changes in rhythm
  • Troubleshoot and assist with high-flow oxygen therapies and respiratory needs
  • Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team including charge nurses, RTs, and techs to optimize patient outcomes
  • Support patient experience goals through clear communication about medications and care plans
  • Float to Med Surg or ICU as needed while maintaining PCU acuity care standards
Qualifications
  • Active RN license (state of practice) required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience (PCU/stepdown, med/surg or ICU experience preferred)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS required
  • Competent with arterial lines and titration of vasoactive drips
  • Telemetry/ECG interpretation experience required
  • Familiarity with EPIC charting preferred
  • Driver's license required at time of submittal (radius rule applies)
  • Must not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any Common Spirit/CHI/Dignity facility
  • Willingness to take a pass/fail skills exam during orientation (90% required to pass)
  • Able to work holidays and every-other-weekend as specified; limited RTO (7 days or less per 13-week contract)
Education
  • Active RN license required
  • BSN not required (ADN or diploma acceptable)
Knowledge & Skills
  • Telemetry monitoring and ECG interpretation
  • Vasoactive drip titration and hemodynamic assessment
  • Arterial line management and interpretation
  • High-flow oxygen therapy and basic respiratory troubleshooting
  • Comfortable using EPIC for charting and care coordination
  • Familiarity with portable and overhead lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
  • Sepsis recognition/management and post-procedural cardiac care (post-stent, post-pacer)
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and culturally sensitive care (Hispanic and Somalian populations noted)
