Job Details
• ICU setting within an acute care hospital (Level II Trauma Center),
• 33-bed ICU unit with an average daily census of 16 patients,
• Adult patient population including trauma, cardiac, sepsis, stroke, overdose/substance abuse, post-stent, pacemaker placement, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases,
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3,
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation,
• GE telemetry monitoring system in use; RNs are required to read, interpret, and document rhythm strips (tele tech oversight also provided),
• Respiratory support ranges from nasal cannula to ventilator; RNs are responsible for troubleshooting RT equipment,
• Epic EMR used in this position,
• 12-hour night shifts ),
• Every other weekend required,
• Minimum of 2 holidays falling within the contract period required,
• Floating may be required to PCU or occasionally Med/Surg at a 1:4 or 1:5 patient ratio,
• Nurse aides available based on census;
Healthcare Support Tech available 3 days per week (Mon-Fri, ),
• Block scheduling is not approved unless weekends only; self-scheduling is available for core staff with travelers added in,
Job Requirements
• Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license - must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted,
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted,
• Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required,
• Experience titrating cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation drips required,
• Experience with telemetry monitoring, including rhythm strip interpretation, required,
• Experience with ventilators and respiratory support equipment required,
• Epic EMR experience preferred,
• A valid driver's license is required for consideration and will be used to verify permanent address,
Additional Information
• Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to confirm permanent address,
• Candidates may not be currently or have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year - candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered,
• A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on Wednesdays during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass - failure to pass may result to contract termination,
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 shift,
• RTO requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved,
• 2 professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire,
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination,
• Local candidates are accepted for this position,
