Job Summary
The primary purpose of this position is z/OS operating system installation and customization using the IBM Server Pac for z/OS process program. The role involves applying operating system and program product fixes, analyzing and debugging related issues, installing and supporting ISV products (e.g., CA, BMC, Rocket Software), estimating and planning installation and upgrade activities, and managing new customer transition projects.
Responsibilities- Provide technical assistance for Disaster Recovery (DR) exercises and Business Continuity Processes (BCP).
- Ensure system improvements and modifications are implemented.
- Develop, enhance, and support technical approaches that allow successful audits and scalable implementations of large, complex mainframe environments.
- Identify and resolve performance issues.
- Facilitate project planning by establishing and meeting work estimates, target dates, milestones, and schedules.
- Participate in the ongoing development and improvement of installation standards.
- Provide team members with technical training and/or mentoring as needed.
- Provide primary support for reported software problems within the assigned area and related products.
- Fulfill Service Now requests related to software within the assigned area.
- Perform a variety of technical tasks in support of Managed Services customers, including:
- Install, implement, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot client infrastructure solutions.
- Plan, develop, install, configure, maintain, support, and optimize client network hardware, software, and communication links.
- Anticipate, mitigate, identify, and respond to system performance issues.
- Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers and multiple databases, and during data transfer.
- Perform database installations, updates/patches/upgrades, tuning, performance monitoring, replication, backups, security, user management, and resource management.
- Research and make recommendations on infrastructure products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Participate in Disaster Recovery exercises and planning.
- Follow change control, incident response, and testing processes.
- Communicate and enforce data storage retention policies.
- Monitor, analyze, and predict equipment performance, space allocation, and data growth trends to recommend enhancements.
- Create scripts to automate common tasks.
- Address and update customer incident tickets and change orders, providing status information to management and account managers.
- Create required reports in response to business user needs.
- Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures, and training plans for system and database administration.
- Develop reusable assets (templates, tools, etc.) for the Managed Services practice.
- Work with account management personnel to participate on conference calls and support client relationships.
- Partner with the Managed Services Continuous Improvement team on pre‑sales support activity and design and scoping of services.
- Provide technical perspective to ensure realistic estimation of scope, cost, and level of effort for proposal generation.
- Work with project managers in the development and implementation of project plans and timelines.
- Comply with all time compliance and time entry guidelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field and 5 years of experience installing, maintaining, and supporting mainframe software products for IBM mainframes with system management functions.
- OR 9 years of experience in the same domain.
- Demonstrated experience with z/OSMF Configuration Assistant.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to execute tasks related to customers’ disaster recovery plans.
- Proficiency in UNIX Systems Services (z/OS, REXX/CLIST, JCL).
- Experience with ISV products such as monitoring, security, data management, and application development solutions.
- Experience implementing and troubleshooting IT infrastructure systems and configurations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and provide customer service.
