Deputy Sheriff

The Deputy Sheriff is responsible for enforcing local, state, and federal laws within the county. This includes patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergency calls, investigating crimes, serving legal documents, and maintaining public safety. Deputies may also be assigned to specialized units as directed.

• Patrol assigned areas to deter and detect criminal activity.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
• Investigate crimes by collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing reports.
• Arrest and transport suspects while ensuring constitutional rights are upheld.
• Serve legal documents including subpoenas, warrants, and eviction notices.
• Provide courtroom security and testify in legal proceedings.
• Enforce traffic laws, conduct DUI investigations, and manage accident scenes.
• Assist in search and rescue operations, natural disasters, and public disturbances.
• Engage in community policing and outreach to build public trust.
• Maintain accurate records and complete detailed incident and arrest reports.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Strong communication, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and be on-call.
• Physical fitness and ability to handle high-stress situations.

• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice preferred.
• Certified law enforcement officer (POST certification or equivalent).
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Must be 21 years of age upon graduation from the training center.
