Job SummaryAs a Charge Nurse at Good Samaritan, you'll oversee a department of frontline nurses caring for patients in the medical surgical unit. Every interaction is an opportunity to improve your understanding of a patient's needs, the needs of your nursing team, or the needs of your unit. You'll advocate for your fellow nurses as you support them in reaching their full potential, which aligns with your department's operational goals and objectives.
Responsibilities- Ability to serve as leader and teammate
- Ensure your direct reports and department are positioned to deliver the best care possible to our patients
- High level of engagement with the floor – visibly connecting with nurses, patients, and families
- Attend meetings with leadership to learn about new initiatives, areas for improvement, etc. and share that information with your team
- Monitor productivity and efficiency of your department
- Mentor people on your team. Share your knowledge and confidence with nurse managers, charge nurses, and others
- Graduate of a RN nursing program.
- Current RN licensure in the State of Nebraska or compact license.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) is required upon hire.
The Medical-Surgical Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital is a 24-bed dedicated unit that cares for a variety of patients including general surgery, medsurg, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine. Established by the Sisters of the St. Francis in 1924, CHI Health Good Samaritan is a 268-bed regional referral center in Kearney, Neb. At CHI Health Good Samaritan, you’ll find an advanced level trauma center that also offers Air Care emergency helicopter transport and an ambulance program providing long distance and local 911 service.
Among our many other services are cardiac care including open-heart surgery, a level II neonatal intensive care unit, a nationally accredited cancer center, comprehensive neurosurgery, advanced orthopedic program, and inpatient and outpatient mental health services at our free-standing Richard Young Behavioral Health facility.
