American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring competency with arterial lines and strong titration skills.

Responsibilities
  • Acute care, 40-bed stepdown Progressive Care Unit
  • Adult patient population with cardiac, med/surg, renal failure, vascular, sepsis, stroke, post‑stent, post‑pacemaker, and cancer diagnosis cases
  • Nurse‑to‑patient ratios of 1:4‑5 on both day and night shifts
  • 12‑hour night shifts with every other weekend required
  • RNs titrate drips such as heparin, nitro, dopamine, cardizem, amiodarone, and insulin
  • RNs read and interpret their own telemetry strips
  • Equipment includes high flow oxygen, overhead lifts, portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • Floating required to Med Surg or ICU to care for PCU‑acuity patients
  • Holiday coverage required for at least two holidays falling within the contract
  • Scrub color is navy blue
  • Artificial nails are prohibited for all patient care staff
  • Orientation consists of one 12‑hour unit‑specific shift
  • Patient care tech ratios are 1:12; unit has charge nurses on every shift
  • Unit values flexibility, strong communication, and adaptability
  • Serves a culturally diverse patient population, primarily Hispanic and Somali
  • Maximum of 7 days requested time off (RTO) permitted per 13‑week contract, all requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
  • First‑time travelers not specified
Requirements
  • Active NE or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU or stepdown experience
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required (no pending certifications accepted)
  • Competency with arterial lines required
  • Must pass an open‑book skills exam with at least 90% during orientation
  • Must provide a copy of a valid driver’s license for radius determination
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Cannot be currently employed full‑time, part‑time, or PRN at any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
  • At least two professional references: one from a recent supervisor (last 12 months) and another from a peer or supervisor (last 3 years)
