Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) position requiring a NE or compact license and expertise in titrating drips.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a hospital acute care setting on a 40-bed Progressive Care (Stepdown) Unit
  • Adult patient population with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer, and renal failure cases
  • Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4-5 on both days and nights
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
  • Required to manage arterial lines and interpret telemetry strips independently
  • High flow respiratory equipment utilized
  • 12-hour night shifts with shift times
  • Every other weekend and a minimum of two holidays within the contract required
  • Floating required to Med Surg and ICU for PCU-acuity patients
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Uses Epic for charting
  • Primary duties include caring for complex adult patients and titrating multiple drips
  • Average daily census is 24 patients supported by a charge nurse and techs at a 1:12 ratio
  • Focus on patient experience, responsiveness, and communication regarding medications
  • Unit serves culturally diverse populations, prominently Hispanic and Somalian patients
  • Artificial nails are not allowed for infection control
  • Orientation consists of one department-specific day and a general hospital orientation with a pass/fail open-book skills exam
  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and possess strong teamwork and communication skills
Requirements
  • Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience in a similar setting
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (all active at time of consideration)
  • Competency in arterial lines required
  • Ability to interpret telemetry strips
  • Must pass a skills exam with minimum 90% during orientation
  • Driver's license required to confirm residency outside a 50-mile radius per rule
  • Candidate must not have been employed by Common Spirit facilities (including CHI/Dignity) in the past year
  • RTO requested upfront (maximum 7 days per 13-week contract), no additional RTO after submission
