Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Ortho position with night shifts and a NE or compact RN license required.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute hospital setting on a Med/Surg Orthopedics unit
- 22-bed unit with an average daily census of 6 patients
- Typical patient population includes total joint replacements (knee, hip, ankle, shoulder, spine)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6
- Uses Epic EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts with a requirement to work every other weekend
- Self-scheduling with cyclic rotation
- Expected to float to Med Surg, rehab, or PCU settings with Med Surg patient acuity
- No titration of drips required except for pain meds, antibiotics, and blood administration
- Tele techs interpret telemetry; RNs are not required to read their own strips
- Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
- Artificial nails are prohibited for all staff in patient care roles
- Orientation is one day with a required pass/fail skills exam
- Team-oriented, flexible nurses who take ownership and are willing to learn will succeed on this unit
- Must be able to rotate holidays with permanent staff
- All requests for time off must be submitted up front and may not exceed 7 days for a 13-week contract
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility as verified by driver’s license
- Block scheduling is only approved for weekends, and paired travelers (duos) are not permitted to share a schedule or vehicle
- Active NE or compact RN license required, must be current at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Current BLS certification required
- Experience with Epic EMR is preferred
- Required to provide a copy of a valid driver’s license for radius verification
- References: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one supervisor or peer from the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- May not have had full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with any Common Spirit facility in the past year
