Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications and a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Responsibilities- ICU setting within an acute care hospital (Level II Trauma Center)
- 33-bed ICU unit with an average daily census of 16 patients
- Adult patient population including trauma, cardiac, sepsis, stroke, overdose/substance abuse, post-stent, pacemaker placement, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2–3
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
- GE telemetry monitoring system in use; RNs are required to read, interpret, and document rhythm strips (tele tech oversight also provided)
- Respiratory support ranges from nasal cannula to ventilator; RNs are responsible for troubleshooting RT equipment
- Epic EMR used in this position
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
- Every other weekend required
- Minimum of 2 holidays falling within the contract period required
- Floating may be required to PCU or occasionally Med/Surg at a 1:4 or 1:5 patient ratio
- Nurse aides available based on census;
Healthcare Support Tech available 3 days per week (Mon–Fri, 0800–1630) - Block scheduling is not approved unless weekends only; self-scheduling is available for core staff with travelers added in
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to confirm permanent address
- Candidates may not be currently or have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on Wednesdays during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure to pass may result to contract termination
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 shift
- RTO requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- 2 professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
- Local candidates are accepted for this position
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
- Experience titrating cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation drips required
- Experience with telemetry monitoring, including rhythm strip interpretation, required
- Experience with ventilators and respiratory support equipment required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- A valid driver's license is required for consideration and will be used to verify permanent address
