Summary
Responsible for providing direct patient care and coordinating collaborative patient care during assigned shifts for acutely ill patients, including those of high acuity and those who are critically ill. Additional administrative duties will be assigned to support the success of the Hospital Medicine Service, including performance improvement activities and participation in CQI activities.
Principal Job Functions
Commits to the KRMC mission, vision, values and goals and consistently demonstrates our core values.Functions as an integral member of a multidisciplinary medical group.Performs comprehensive care in the inpatient setting.Works both autonomously within scope of practice and collaboratively with attending physicians.Works within an interdisciplinary team to formulate individual treatment plans for each patient cared for.Delivers patient care including but not limited to diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, injuries and conditions within scope of practice.Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity, identifying and addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, religious, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.Interacts professionally with the patient and the respective family, involving the patient and family (at the discretion of the patient) in the formulation of the plan of care.Develops and provides relevant patient education.Makes appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community agencies.Works collaboratively with multiple hospitalist providers, physicians, and clinical staff.Keeps physicians updated on each patient’s status and treatment plan, most notably upon discharge.Consults with other departments as appropriate to provide and collaborate in patient care.Abides by hospital policies and procedures while adhering to privileges extended to the APP by the Medical Executive Committee.Completes all documentation including history and physical examinations, consultations, progress notes, and discharge summaries in a timely fashion as specified in the bylaws.Resolves personnel concerns at the department level, utilizing the grievance process as required.Complies with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.Responsible for additional administrative duties and quality improvement activities that are necessary for the success of the Hospital Medicine Department.Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.Education and Experience
Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or an approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act is required. A Master of Science degree in Nursing with current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska is required. Two (2) years of advanced practice experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority is required.
OR
Graduate degree from a Physician’s Assistant program is required. Current licensure as a Physician Assistant is required. Completion of Bryan credentialing and re-credentialing process is required for employment. Two (2) years of advanced practice experience in an acute care setting is preferred. Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority is required.
Other Credentials / Certifications
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification is required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
Advanced Life Support (ACLS) and current NIHSS certification are required.
