Under general supervision, performs journey-level maintenance of and construction on the City’s buildings. Work varies requiring interpretative judgment within prescribed standards and procedures. Perform general carpentry, plumbing and concrete work; preventive maintenance and repair or replacement on boilers, air conditioning, roof top heating, and air-handling units, electrical systems, scoreboards, pumps, valves, electric motors, garage door openers, and swimming pools; connect service for telephone and computer;

install or repair plumbing fixtures, water, sewer, and drain lines; perform safety and building inspections according to preventive maintenance schedules; perform underground wiring splicing, locksmith duties; make and install signs for public meetings or for zoning; utilize work request system to schedule and prioritize work; repair lamps and sockets for outdoor lights; enter work order information into Facility Management tracking software.

Perform overtime as required and other duties as assigned.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Ability to read and comprehend technically written material. Ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts accurately. Ability to listen to and apply information and instructions. Ability to maintain accurate records.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and two years of experience in construction or maintenance work. Possession of valid Nebraska driver’s license with the ability to obtain a CDL with Air Brakes Certification within 6 months of hire. Intermediate computer skills required.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

Thirty (30) minute response time by way of the most direct route from the employee’s permanent residence to the employee’s assigned work site and within posted speed limits.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND WORK AIDS USED

Carpentry tools, hand tools, electric test meter, paint sprayer, light generator, computer, calculator, and vehicle.
