Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and effective services
    • Adhere to policies related to safety and boundaries with service recipients.
    • Attend safety and abuse risk management training as assigned.
    • Adhere to procedures related to managing high‑risk activities and supervising service recipients.
    • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
    • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
    • Follow policies and procedures related to medication administration for service recipients.
  • Coordinate youth referrals
    • Screen and assess child referrals and interview youth to determine eligibility.
    • Schedule pre‑placement visits with child and potential foster family and assist in matching youth with an appropriate family.
    • Participate in the recruiting and selection process of foster parents, including home study evaluations.
  • Develop all aspects of the child's program and set short and long‑term goals and objectives for the youth
    • Consult and collaborate with referral source, foster parents, teachers, school counselors, and other professionals involved with the youth.
    • Assist families with referrals to other community services identified in the plan of service and provide advocacy to receive entitlements or needed services.
    • Prepare intake and discharge summaries, routine progress reports and plans; evaluate plan and recommend changes.
    • Develop and monitor the child's service plan, including collecting initial and ongoing assessment data, developing the plan, and making modifications as necessary.
    • Maintain monthly statistics and data needed for program accountability and billing for client services.
    • Conduct periodic consumer evaluations.
    • Respond to client emergencies within or outside normal work hours.
  • Supervise and develop foster parents
    • Meet with foster parents following scheduled reporting guidelines to discuss administrative and programmatic issues, review progress and provide support.
    • Supervise the care and service foster parents provide, observe interactions with foster children and provide ongoing feedback.
    • Initiate and modify development plans for each foster family to ensure they are aware of strengths and areas to develop.
    • Provide ongoing training and teaching through formal group training, web‑based learning and one‑on‑one training in foster parents' homes.
  • Coordinate communication between the child and his/her family
    • Maintain contact with the family and respond to issues/concerns in a supportive and timely fashion.
    • Encourage and expect foster parents to communicate openly with the family regarding care and services provided.
    • Assist with reintegration of child into his/her home communities.
    • Assist with follow‑up and aftercare services to family as needed.
    • May be trained to become a certified Common Sense Parenting Instructor and conduct CSP courses as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience working with local and state agencies and foster care services.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the child welfare system.
  • Independent decision‑making skills, ability to work in crisis situations when warranted.
  • Ability to work with confrontational clients and families; temperament to handle crisis situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and role modeling.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Communicate professionally with individuals at all levels and external contacts.
  • Knowledge of Boys Town Model.
  • Function independently with flexibility, integrity, and teamwork.
  • Advanced critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills, including assessment and sound judgment.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience, including working with children and families.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record; pass annual MVR check.
  • Provide own transportation to meet travel requirements of job.
  • Meet auto insurance requirements established by Boys Town policy and/or State and Local laws.
  • Availably rotationally to provide crisis response; must be available to work non‑traditional business hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
