Under the direction of the school principal, the classroom teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop critical thinking, problem‑solving, and lifelong learning skills. Teachers maintain a safe environment; establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues; motivate students to develop knowledge and attitudes needed for a strong foundation for further education, and implement proficiency‑based grading and the Granite Way.
EssentialFunctions
- Teach the core content areas outlined in the USBE's Core Curriculum and other approved learning activities.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt curriculum to the child’s needs.
- Utilize effective teaching techniques to translate lesson plans into productive student learning experiences.
- Use computers and other technological equipment in instruction.
- Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including recess duty and gymnasium activities in all weather.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere through organization and discipline strategies.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
- Implement proficiency‑based learning and the Granite Way in student evaluation.
- Communicate with parents via conferences, calls, emails, student planners, and the school website about student progress.
- Collaborate with professional staff regarding student academic and personal growth.
- Be present, punctual, and maintain a safe, supportive classroom and campus environment.
- Maintain professional competence through district and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Participate in faculty meetings, evaluation procedures, standardized testing, and faculty committees.
- Administer attendance policies and policies, and select instructional resources.
- Model professional and ethical standards with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Criminal background check cleared by the Utah State Board of Education.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Current Utah Elementary teaching license or equivalent out‑of‑state professional elementary license.
- ESL endorsement preferred.
- Internal applicants preferred.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, lift, and move objects up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Requires hearing, vision, and frequently standing and moving.
