PROGRAM

DESCRIPTION:

The ESL Summer Program is an intensive remediation program for students who are struggling with literacy and mathematical skills.

* The program is designed to decrease summer learning loss and close the achievement gap for Multilingual Learners (MLs) in rising grades one through twelve.

* Small group instruction with targeted students will be implemented.

* Student enrollment will target newcomers to the United States (one year or less of enrollment in a United States school).

PROGRAM DETAILS:

* Five weeks:
June 29
- July 30

* Monday-Thursday

* 9am-1pm

DUTIES:

* Authentic implementation of interventions to assist ESL students with developing ELA and Math skills;

* Work to meet each student's needs by using different intervention approaches based on the students' response to the methods being used;

* Maintain accurate records/data of student work;

* Use assessment data to plan instruction that targets the needs of the students;

* Communication with parents to provide feedback on student's progress.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must hold elementary teaching certification; teachers who possess an English as a Second Language certificate (1475) and/or Bilingual/Bicultural certificate (code 1480) are strongly encouraged to apply;
Orton Gillingham training preferred. All interested candidates are encouraged to apply. Candidates MUST be available to work the full length of the program.

REMUNERATION:

Remuneration will be in accordance with the applicable KEA Salary Guide.
