The position will work closely with leadership level and employee level team members across the manufacturing site to support a strong proactive safety culture and an effective, efficient, and compliant EH&S process. The position will maintain documentation to support compliance with regulatory standards at the federal, state, and local levels.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities General- Comply with all OSHA, Owens Corning, and other workplace regulatory rules.
- Proactively lead the Owens Corning Kearny team by example in all aspects of EH&S.
- This is an in-person, onsite role in an industrial manufacturing setting.
- Availability to work on different shifts once per week to support 24-hour manufacturing operations.
- Attend daily production department shift huddles once per week to communicate EHS initiatives.
- Investigate workplace safety concerns and submit SAP work request notifications as needed.
- Participate in Owens Corning EHS regional calls to understand Roofing & Asphalt Divisional priorities.
- Assist in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program implementation.
- Support facility needs through management of EH&S vendor activities.
- Support facility safe operation through EH&S supply purchasing and procurement.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Perform all other duties as directed by the EH&S Leader to support facility EH&S goals.
- Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry safety program standards
- Maintain and audit Owens Corning SIF (Serious Injury or Fatality-potential) program standards:
- Powered Industrial Vehicles
- Machine Guarding
- Working from Heights
- Confined Space Entry
- Electrical Safety
- Hot Work
- Understand and ensure compliance with Owens Corning Lock/Tag/Try system. Become an expert on hazardous energy control using provided documentation. Conduct or facilitate employee lockout training.
- Manage Owens Corning Powered Industrial Vehicle program.
- Become an Owens Corning forklift trainer.
- Apply prescribed hazard analysis methodologies to determine at-risk conditions.
- Complete initial investigations and determines root cause of reported injuries / near misses.
- Lead and implement HPI (Human Performance Improvement) principles through ongoing safety communication on the floor, specialized projects, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and other training.
- Lead monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
- Work towards certification as an Owens Corning Hazard & Control Specialist 2.0
- Lead and maintain Learning Management System (LMS) online safety training program in both Roofing and Asphalt.
- Act as a guide and main point of contact for safety training for outside contractors.
- Lead, maintain and update safety training package for all Owens Corning new hires.
- Lead facility housekeeping in accordance with environmental, safety, and health program requirements.
- Complete any other tasks assigned by EH&S Leader in order to maintain facility safety standing.
- Lead compliance efforts for all site environmental regulatory programs including, but not limited to:
- Title V. Major Source Facility air permit
- USEPA SPCC plan
- USEPA FRP plan
- NJDEP DPCC / DCR plans
- EPCRA Section 313 / Community Right to Know
- NJ Safe Drinking Water standard
- Radiation General License
- Assist in maintenance of the Owens Corning facility Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Maintain facility environmental compliance calendar and adhere to all reporting deadlines.
- Lead closure of monthly compliance calendar action items for Roofing and Asphalt facilities (physical records verification, inspection confirmations, vendor management, compliance planning)
- Update and maintain the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for hazard communication program.
- Manage site Safety Data Sheet (SDS) inventory onsite and electronically.
- Communicate effectively with environmental consultants to support facility programs.
- Manage and schedule environmental testing and compliance vendors.
- Assist in scheduling of workplace biannual industrial hygiene surveys.
- Identify and mitigate health concerns in the workplace.
- Understand and mitigate exposure to workplace gas and chemical hazards, including the oversight of safe confined space entry procedures; use and calibration of facility multi-gas meters.
- Ensure compliance with workplace hearing conservation area standards.
- Ability to work well in a group or alone.
- Ability to manage own time and assignments on a priority basis.
- Strong organizational skillset and attention to detail.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written.
- Able to maintain extensive professional relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization: regional management, facility management, facility supervision, union representatives, and floor employees.
