Utility Worker - 6 openings

Payrate is $18.38 same for all shifts as a temp, but they will get a shift differential if they perform well enough to be hired as regular. Right now all workers must be open to the following schedule:

candidates will start on first shift, 5:45am - 2pm; if offered a position, he/she will be transferred to another shift. In the fall of 2020, no date has been set, we will move to a four shift operation. Shifts will be 6am - 6pm, four days on, three days off.

SUMMARY

The Utility position is an hourly position, and reports to the Production Shift Supervisor. The employee is responsible for ensuring that the end process of producing quality shingles continues even during process upsets. The Utility ensures that only quality product makes it from the production line.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• SAFETY

o Follow and enforce all safety rules and procedures, training, and initiatives

o Maintain good housekeeping in all work areas

o Participate on safety teams

• QUALITY

o Perform laminator quality checks

§ Ensure bundles are properly stacked when exiting autocatchers

o Evaluate layout board

o Monitor and report unusual or suspect material issues

§ Remove off-specification shingles from line

§ Ensure that no granule build-up is falling onto bundles

§ Remove splices

§ Monitor levels and application of laminate and seal

• PRODUCTION

o Be familiar with the laminator, autocatchers, palletizer, and line drive jobs and procedures

o Manually stack-off product during equipment failure

o Clear machine jams

o Prepare shingle bundles for wrapper

o Wrap or Rewrap finished product as necessary

o Visibly check measurements of shingles

o Assist in lace-up procedures

o Handle, stack, weigh, mark, and store product seconds in proper location

o Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on down days

o Assist team members to keep front end of line running smoothly

o Relieve front end team members for break periods

o Assist the shift mechanic on machine outages

o Visibly verify completion and submission of operator paperwork

o Participate in process teams

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Must be able to read, write, and speak English

• Must be able to work at a reasonably fast pace

• Must be able to work flexible shift schedules

• Regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility are required

• Must have the ability to do basic mathematical calculations

• Must be able to work with a computer to perform basic data entry

• Must be able to operate a forklift

• Must be able to operate a computer or other keyboard instrument

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
