Due to a promotion the City of Keene has an exciting new opening available in the Engineering Division of the Public Works department! We are looking for a skilled Engineering Technician to assist with a variety of responsibilities including surveying designing and inspecting Public Works construction sites projects and properties; maintaining engineering records; and assisting the public regarding engineering permits and requirements and in resolving issues.

The successful applicant will have a minimum of an Associate's Degree in Engineering plus one to three years professional engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. He/she will have strong skills in reading writing analyzing and interpreting general business correspondence procedure manuals and governmental regulations; presenting information effectively and responding to questions from groups of managers customers and the public;

using computers including spreadsheets computer-aided-design and engineering software. Applicants will also have the ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus modern algebra and advanced statistical theory; have the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of problems; and have the ability to deal with abstract and concrete variables. A Land Surveyor License or Land Surveyor in Training is desired.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Assist in the field survey of property; property boundaries; and construction sites.

* Assist in design of City projects

* Perform inspections of City construction projects.

* Assist with infrastructure planning and improvements.

* Review plans; blueprints; and sketches to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards regarding accepted construction materials and methods.

* Review subdivision and site plans; performing field inspections as necessary.

* Index; catalog; and file engineering records; including maps; plans; drawings; blueprints; field books; and reports

* Maintain GIS data and maps and other databases and software interface for utility assets.

* Maintain Cartegraph database for work orders and asset management.

* Maintain computer software and hardware for Public Works.

* Provide research and drafting services.

* Assist the public regarding engineering permits and requirements and in resolving issues.

* Process permit requests. Verify that applicant meets initial requirements.

* Issue single family driveway; street excavation and sidewalk encumbrance permits.

* Purchase engineering supplies.

* Maintain awareness of current and emerging technology and methods in the engineering field.

* This position is subject to stand-by duty and call-back during non-regular working hours; weekends; and holidays.

* Other duties may be assigned as is required.

A.

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree in Engineering plus one to three years professional engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read; analyze; and interpret general business periodicals; professional journals; technical procedures; or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports; business correspondence; and procedure manuals. E. Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas; scientific equations; graphs; musical notes; etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
