Gooch & Housego Keene seeks a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer to lead design of precision optical components and assemblies for aerospace, defense, industrial, and life science applications. In this on-site role, you will translate optical and system requirements into robust opto-mechanical designs, perform detailed tolerance and structural analyses, and generate high-quality CAD models and drawings. You will collaborate closely with optical, manufacturing, and quality teams, support prototyping and testing, and drive DFM and continuous improvement in a culture focused on engineering excellence and mission-critical performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and development of opto-mechanical components and assemblies for precision photonics systems
- Translate optical and system requirements into robust mechanical designs and tolerances
- Perform detailed analyses (tolerance, thermal, vibration, structural) to ensure performance in mission-critical environments
- Create and manage 3
- D models, drawings, and documentation in CAD and PDM systems
- Collaborate with optical, manufacturing, quality, and program teams to industrialize designs
- Support prototyping, test, root cause analysis, and design validation activities
- Drive DFM/DFC and continuous improvement to enhance reliability, cost, and manufacturability
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and peer design reviews within the engineering team
- Interface with customers and global teams to clarify requirements and present design solutions
- Ensure compliance with aerospace/defense and internal quality standards and processes
