Salary and Shift Information
Salary Range: $18.10 – $27.15 per hour
Shift Type: Days
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hours: 8 hours per day (40 hours per week)
Weekend Requirement: Some Saturdays required
On-Call Requirement: To Be Determined
Position SummaryUnder the direction of the providers and Practice Manager, the Surgical Coordinator supports the daily operations of the orthopedic office by coordinating surgical schedules, communicating with patients, and ensuring all pre‑operative and post‑operative requirements are completed accurately and on time.
This position combines strong administrative skills with exceptional patient service and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and maintain all orthopedic surgical scheduling in collaboration with providers, the operating room, and other departments.
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, and clinical teams regarding surgery dates, pre-operative instructions, and follow-up appointments.
- Receive and review pre-operative paperwork for accuracy and completeness, including insurance and medical information.
- Create, coordinate, and schedule pre-operative interviews and medical clearances as needed.
- Notify vendors, ancillary departments, and specialty representatives of equipment or implant needs.
- Maintain accurate records of all scheduled surgeries and promptly update changes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Notify internal and external services (e.g., anticoagulation clinic, imaging, physical therapy) of schedule updates or cancellations.
- Provide administrative and communication support to the orthopedic team as assigned.
- Adhere to all safety, confidentiality, and quality standards in accordance with hospital policies.
- High school diploma or equivalent (Required).
- One or more years of experience in a medical office or surgical scheduling environment (Required).
- Knowledge of medical terminology, orthopedic procedures, and insurance authorization processes (Required).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy clinical environment (Required).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams (Required).
- Proficiency in EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications (Required).
- Post-secondary education in healthcare administration or medical assisting.
- BLS (American Heart Association).
