SUMMARY

The State of New Hampshire Fish and Game Department has a full-time vacancy for Biologist II in the Inland Fisheries Division/Region 4 Office located at 15 Ashbrook Court, Keene, NH 03431. The position (WARMWATER) REG 4 KEENE is classified as Biologist II and offers an hourly rate of $25.40 to $34.14, with additional total compensation detailed below.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience, and vice versa.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree and 1.5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of 5.5 years of education and experience after high school.
  • Education and experience must be in environmental science, environmental studies, environmental engineering, natural resources, biology, botany, wildlife, forestry, hydrology, or a related field.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Willingness to travel throughout the state, work occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards established by the agency.
  • Regular fieldwork, including moderate physical labor; ability to work outdoors for long hours in varied weather conditions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to negotiate in varied terrain, outdoor safety proficiency, competence with compass, maps, and surveys. AFS Certified Associate Fisheries Professional is desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan and develop work within the warmwater fisheries research and management program to meet statewide objectives.
  • Coordinate and direct field staff to complete both warmwater fisheries program and Region 4 work plans.
  • Collect, analyze, and evaluate statewide scientific data related to warmwater fisheries and other Region 4 projects.
  • Review research data for accuracy, analyze, and provide recommendations on the scientific merit of research data to meet program objectives.
  • Communicate within the Department, with other agencies, the public, and represent the Fish and Game Department at public meetings and professional conferences.
  • Prepare scientific reports on warmwater fisheries research results and supply other program leaders with data summaries from Region 4.
  • Purchase necessary equipment for the warmwater fisheries program statewide and for other Region 4 work needs.
  • Directly supervise full-time and temporary staff, professionals, and volunteers involved in warmwater fisheries research and other Region 4 efforts.
  • Coordinate all fishing tournament rules, permitting, data collection, and analysis; liaise with Tournament Directors and act as the liaison for the Department.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance on any subject related to warmwater fisheries research and management to the public and municipal, media, education, and inter-agency professionals.
