Description

The Home for Little Wanderers' Unity House, a community-based group home in Keene, NH, serving youth ages 14‑18 who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community, is seeking Overnight Residential Counselors. The program is the first of its kind in the Granite State, offering a safe, supportive living environment with 24‑hour staffing for up to eight youth while they prepare for family reunification, independent living, secondary education paths and future self‑sufficiency.

Position

Description

Under the direction of a supervisor, the Residential Counselor is primarily responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for clients. The counselor must be knowledgeable of the program's mission, treatment philosophy, policies and procedures and apply this understanding in direct care and supervision of clients.

How You'll Be Making a Difference
  • Apply program routines and structure, maintaining a general understanding of the client population.
  • Foster healthy, appropriate relationships with clients through daily interactions.
  • Understand the level system (cards, behavior contracts, etc.).
  • Supervise and coordinate daily living activities for students – hygiene, clothing, chores, and other activities; assist with transitions.
  • Provide First Aid as needed.
  • Plan and participate in individual and small group (less than
    6) activities in line with treatment plans and goals, teaching life and social skills.
  • Participate in off‑campus recreational and educational activities.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive environment: manage living, dining, educational, recreational areas to keep them clean and organized; ensure adequate supervision through coordination with staff.
  • Provide group and individual behavior support and intervention, including use of TCI‑appropriate physical restraint when necessary; coordinate medical and emergency situations with the supervisor.
  • Communicate with program staff about client progress and challenges.
  • Complete all assigned paperwork: time sheet, level card, goal/level tracking, incident reports, and 51A’s promptly.
  • Attend trainings and participate in supervision meetings.
  • Prepare weekend meals if required.
  • If required to transport clients, maintain the required liability insurance and keep vehicle registration current.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year or more of childcare experience in a residential setting with a similar population.
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer, and ability to learn new software.
