Description Summary

The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” AIT and Assistant Managers perform sales, merchandising and operational tasks including cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning. They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates and provide leadership.

The Assistant Manager position builds on the AIT role with additional high-level duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and consistently provide legendary service.
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on guest needs.
  • Anticipate and fulfill guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience.
  • Demonstrate product using product knowledge and sales education.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, payment and return policies, and security practices.
  • Remain consistent on personal sales and seek opportunities to impact teammates’ presentations with the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG).
  • Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by Store Management.
  • Provide legendary service throughout the store – Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area.
  • Know all exchange and return procedures and use them as show‑making opportunities.
  • Use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to accomplish goals.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs.
  • Explore ways to expand guest selection through inventory management, iPad apps, etc.
  • Build good guest relationships to develop a client‑based business.
  • Lead by example with high level of show‑making, excellent customer service and attentiveness.
  • Recognize and communicate guest levels with the team.
  • Ask business‑driven, show‑making questions to managers and teammates.
  • Be coachable and welcome feedback from management.
  • Perform leadership actions and maintain high standards regardless of manager presence.
  • Plan sales goals with Store Manager.
  • Own the store’s sales performance (sales, average sale, business builders, denim).
  • Show passion for product education and show‑making to create results.
Team Recruiting, Training and Development
  • Identify recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals and teammate recommendations.
  • Coach and build relationships through guest loyalty programs.
  • Train new teammates to meet Buckle’s accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention and sales presentation standards.
  • Maintain a positive floor culture.
  • Model the dress code and coach teammates on fashion.
  • Participate in daily setup, training, impact reviews and use the Performance Tracker.
  • Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks set by Store Management.
  • Demonstrate, coach and influence denim show‑making and denim fit cards.
  • Develop results in your department and balance all DM actions within your segment, including mid‑week check‑ins.
  • Execute actions from department calendars and track on the Weekly Delegation Worksheet.
  • Engage guests with product.
  • Share updated information with fellow leaders and teammates.
  • Remember guest names and display gratitude.
  • Explain pay and Buckle benefits to candidates.
  • Maintain contact lists and add top talent to the team consistently.
  • Undergo training on the Leadership playbook.
  • Support colleague training and coaching across all non‑sales positions.
  • Adjust to changing sales focuses and fulfill all training needs.
  • Own zone ownership, assign zones and projects, and train teammates on new tools and videos.
