Overview
Under the direction of the Director of Library and/or Designee, performs assigned duties necessary for the development and implementation of public programs for including, but not limited to: education, literacy, literature, educational and craft programs, culture, technology, and career growth. Coordinates, markets and/or participates in local events and activities representing City and Library programs.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement public programs in the library system across education, literacy, literature, educational and craft programs, culture, technology, and career growth.
- Coordinate, market and participate in local events and activities representing City and Library programs.
- A Master’s Degree in Library Sciences from an accredited institution and five (5) years of work-related experience in Library Sciences and/or Library management are required.
- Three (3) years of experience in Library management strongly preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.
- Ability to read letters, memos, contracts, professional and industry literature, spreadsheets and other job-related analysis.
- Work requires substantial independent judgment and decision-making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint software.
- Ability to research, compile and analyze data, and present findings to management in an acceptable format.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
- Ability to monitor and assess operations, workload, projects, and staff performance.
- Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and pressure of a fast-paced, ever-adapting work environment.
- Remain up-to-date on Federal, State and City regulations, best practices and policies affecting department- and job-related activities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City and other public employees, public officials, contractors, consultants, vendors, and the general public.
- Learn and be competent in the use of the Library’s various software systems (e.g., Koha, Aspen) and establish and maintain effective support relationships with technology vendors (e.g., Envisionware, Bibliotheca, Tech Logic).
- Ability to interpret and apply cataloging standards such as AACR2, RDA, Library of Congress, Library of Congress Subject Headings, MARC
21, and OCLC. - Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver license.
- Must pass all post-offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, including Drug Screen, Physical Examination, and applicable Background Checks.
