SUMMARY:
Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to match student ability levels. Work in self‑contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.

- Model KISD core organizational beliefs and values; perform duties effectively and efficiently to support high student achievement.
- Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in cross‑functional work groups.
- Maintain a commitment to the District mission; model District expectations through personal leadership and support others in achieving District goals.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) through the ARD process for each student.
- Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill‑development program for assigned students and provide written evidence of preparation as required.
- Implement instruction in academic and adaptive skills, using strategies that accommodate various learning styles and disabilities.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that meet student needs.
- Present subject matter effectively according to IEP guidelines; employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, including technology.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist Special Education students in regular classes.
- Participate in ARD Committee meetings.
- Select materials, equipment, and other instructional media.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the principal.
- Provide or supervise personal care including diapering, medical care, and feeding in accordance with IEP.
- Be a positive role model for students.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
- Consult on behavior management according to IEP.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and records.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
- Participate in staff development to improve job‑related skills.
- Comply with State, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Stay informed of and comply with all federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
- Develop and maintain systems for retrieving information to support all programs.
- Pursue professional development activities for self and staff aligned with District goals and current research.
- Comply with all policies, procedures, legal requirements, and directives.
- Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
