SUMMARY: Provides technical assistance and support in the area of Special Education programming, promoting quality and compliance of programs and services to improve student achievement.

Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies
  • Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process for each assigned student.
  • Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program and prepare lessons reflecting accommodations for student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instruction and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of assigned students and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed for identified students.
  • Determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods with other staff according to district requirements.
  • Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly.
  • Select equipment and instructional media.
Student Growth and Development
  • Consult district and outside resource individuals regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
  • Act as a positive role model for students.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and documents required.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs.
  • Pursue professional development activities for self and staff aligned with district goals and initiatives.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, legal requirements, and directives.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas Special Education Teacher Certification.
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements.
  • Master’s degree (preferred).

Experience:

  • Three years successful Special Education teaching or related services field experience.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of reading, writing, and spelling instructional strategies.
  • Knowledge of ARD Committee process and IEP goal‑setting and implementation.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and use student data.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
