SUMMARY: Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to match student ability levels. Work in self‑contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
Major Responsibilities and Duties- Model KISD core organizational beliefs and values; perform duties effectively and efficiently to support high student achievement.
- Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in cross‑functional work groups.
- Maintain commitment to the District mission; model District expectations through personal leadership and support others to achieve District goals.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) via the ARD Committee process.
- Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs for assigned students and maintain documentation as required.
- Deliver instruction in academic and adaptive skills using strategies that accommodate various learning styles and disabilities.
- Conduct assessments of student learning styles and plan appropriate instructional strategies and materials.
- Present subject matter effectively according to IEP guidelines, employing diverse instructional techniques and technology.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula and assist special education students in regular classes.
- Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly and in selection of materials and equipment.
- Assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Provide or supervise personal care (diapering, medical care, feeding) as indicated in IEP.
- Be a positive role model for students.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the students’ development.
- Consult with teachers regarding behavior management according to IEP.
- Manage student behavior per the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, materials, and facilities.
- Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
- Participate in staff development activities; attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with regulations and policies for special education teachers.
- Develop and maintain systems for information retrieval supporting all programs.
- Ensure professional development aligns with District goals and current research.
- Comply with all policies, legal requirements, and the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required Special Education endorsements.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in English as a Second Language (preferred).
- Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.
- Knowledge of core academic subjects, curriculum, instruction, and behavior interventions.
- Ability to conduct assessments, adjust instruction, and manage multiple IEPs.
- Experience with BIPs, differentiated instruction, and inclusive strategies.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; patience and compassion.
- Ability to work effectively with general education teachers, parents, and stakeholders.
- Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
Full‑Time.
