Position
Coordinator of High School Youth Ministry
General Position SummaryA core area of ministerial responsibility for the High School Youth Ministry Coordinator (HSYMC) is the active development and engagement of a comprehensive evangelization and catechetical formation process. The HSYMC is responsible for the development, coordination, supervision and execution of parish programs designed to engage and educate the youth of the parish. He or she will act as an advocate and link for youth and their families to the youth ministry team, the parish family, and the surrounding community.
PrincipalAccountabilities
- Engages an active discipleship process that fosters an interior conversion to Christ and His Church.
- Seeks to draw young people to responsible and active participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
- Promotes active participation in the sacramental life of the Church, especially the Mass, Confession and adoration.
- Facilitates the development of community among young people, their families, their parish and the local community.
- Supports families in their role of promoting healthy adolescent development and faith growth.
- Assures that all legal, moral, and Diocesan responsibilities are provided for within the context of the youth program.
- Is informed of and adheres to Church policies, local, state and federal laws pertaining to abuse to minors.
- Participate in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to keep current with trends in Youth Ministry.
- Proven participation and continuing updating of the Safe Environment Program sponsored through the diocese.
- Adheres to the policies and guidelines of the parish employee handbook.
- Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.
- Develops and implements sound evangelization and catechetical curriculums in the area of evangelization, catechesis, doctrine, liturgy and sacraments, moral life and prayer.
- Makes certain all events and programs reflect sound Catholic doctrine in keeping with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
- Provides for and participates in ongoing education opportunities.
- Facilitates the planning, implementation and evaluation of department goals.
- Specific catechetical formation through the approved Diocesan catechist formation process through the Department of Evangelization and Catechesis (DEC).
- Develops opportunities for youth to be visibly present and involved with the larger parish community.
- Facilitates the development of community among young people, their families, their parish and the local community.
- Recruits teen and adult leaders to be disciples (i.e. active witnesses of the Gospel in all areas of service to youth).
- Facilitates the training and support of all faith formation leaders.
- Supervision and catechetical instruction related to all youth ministry staff. Leads the core team(s) and catechists in planning and coordinating programs and services.
- Insures that all volunteers have received appropriate Safe Environment training and adhere to all Safe Environment policies.

- Director of Evangelization and Catechesis, Other RE team members
- Chief of Staff, Business Manager, Communication team members, Director of Campus Safety
- Supports families in their role of promoting healthy adolescent development and faith growth.
- Department Director of Evangelization and Catechesis for the Ft. Worth Diocese
- Other Coordinators of High School Youth Ministry in the Ft. Worth and Dallas Dioceses
- Venders of religious materials for curriculum and catechesis development
Physical Requirements
- This position is part of a ministry team and entails frequent evening and weekend work.
- Could be expected to lift up to thirty pounds.
- Some travel required, up to 20%.
- BA in Theology/Religious Education or a related educational field and/or a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning.
