SUMMARY:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities, instruction, and supervision by implementing the lesson plans as directed by the teacher/aide as appropriate. Perform the classroom duties of the regular teacher or classroom aide as appropriate.

Core Responsibilities
  • Model KISD core organizational beliefs and values; perform duties effectively and efficiently for the purpose of supporting and contributing to high student achievement.
  • Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in cross‑functional work groups.
  • Maintain a commitment to the District mission; model District expectations through personal leadership and actively support the efforts of others to achieve District goals.
Instructional Strategies – Short Term Assignment
  • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the absent teacher or designated staff.
  • Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students according to the lesson plans.
Substitute Teacher
  • Work cooperatively with teachers to modify curriculum for students as needed or noted in lesson plans.
Instructional Strategies – Long Term Assignment
  • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the absent teacher or designated staff that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required; implement lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student needs; may be required to develop and prepare lesson plans.
  • Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students according to the lesson plans.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with Special Education teachers to modify curricula as needed for Special Education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
Student Growth and Development – Short Term Assignment
  • Be a positive role model for students.
  • Support the mission of the campus and District.
Student Growth and Development – Long Term Assignment
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
Classroom Management and Organization – Short and Long Term Assignments
  • Supervise students at all times.
  • Submit attendance reports.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly classroom and follow the classroom and school procedures as directed by the school.
  • Leave a note for the classroom teacher at the end of the teaching day.
  • Report any accidents or incidents.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
