Corning is a leading innovator in optical communications technologies. We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II for our new product development team to design, develop, optimize, and validate fiber optic hardware components and assemblies from concept through manufacturing.
Responsibilities- Take ownership of design activities and apply expertise in plastic injection molding, sheet metal design, and related manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, prototyping, and fabrication teams to ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and cost‑effective.
- Communicate with customers to define requirements and support collaborative design efforts.
- Use engineering judgment to drive designs from early development through production, balancing technical depth with execution.
- Apply finite element analysis (FEA) and other engineering analyses to validate designs.
- Maintain design documentation using Windchill or a similar product lifecycle management system.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or industrial engineering.
- 2+ years of relevant engineering experience in product development, mechanical design, or related work.
- Proficiency with CAD software, preferably Creo Parametric, for at least 1 year.
- Experience designing components involving sheet metal and plastic molded parts.
- Understanding of design for manufacturability, tolerance considerations, and engineering documentation practices.
- Familiarity with Windchill or a similar product lifecycle/document management system.
- Working knowledge of mechanical analysis tools, including FEA; additional analysis methods are a plus.
- Ability to work independently and drive work to completion with guidance.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and sound engineering judgment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively across functions, teams, and customers.
Range: $70,042.00 – $96,309.00 (full‑time)
