Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.
This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
** Role Purpose*
* We are seeking an Engineer to support product development and product integrity efforts across the full product lifecycle from concept through production. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to ensure products meet performance, reliability, and safety standards. This is a strong opportunity for early-career engineers to gain hands-on experience in product lifecycle development and continuous improvement within a globally connected manufacturing environment.
** Key Responsibilities*
* + Collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure product integrity requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle.
+ Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) activities, including design reviews, validation and verification testing, and engineering documentation.
+ Analyze product performance and quality data; support failure analysis and corrective action efforts.
+ Coordinate outsourced qualification testing with external labs and work with suppliers on component quality and performance requirements.
+ Assist in managing engineering changes (Engineering Change Request/Engineering Change Order - ECR/ECO) and maintaining compliance with applicable industry standards (e.g., Telcordia, IEC, JEDEC, ISO).
** Required Qualifications*
* + Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
+ 1+ year of relevant engineering experience, including internships and co-ops
+ Foundational knowledge of engineering principles and product development processes
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
+ Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams
** Desired Qualifications*
* +
Experience with a programming language (e.g., Python, C, C#)
+ Familiarity with quality tools such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), 8D, root cause analysis, or Statistical Process Control (SPC)
+ Exposure to manufacturing processes and product testing
+ Knowledge of industry standards such as ISO, TIA, IEEE, or Telcordia
