Manufacturing Engineering Manager

This role combines technical leadership, lab operations management, and product qualification expertise, with direct impact on how Corning brings next-generation optical cable assemblies, fiber optic interconnects, and photonic components to market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the strategy and roadmap for Corning's optical verification and qualification laboratory, including operating procedures, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance programs.
- Lead daily lab operations and provide hands-on technical direction when needed.
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and technicians.
- Create and manage qualification plans, validation protocols, and reliability test strategies for new product introductions.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to define product qualification strategies and ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, including Telcordia and related optical qualification frameworks.
- Review and approve supplier qualification plans across global regions, including APAC, EMEA, and North America.
Education/Experiences
- Required:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field)
- 5+ years of experience in optical fiber component or cable assembly qualification; candidates with fewer years and demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience will be considered
- Laboratory supervisory experience
- Expertise in optical assembly processes, including active/passive alignment, bonding, curing, and precision placement
- Experience with fiber optic connector technologies, including LC, SC, MPO/MPT, and MMC connectors
- Knowledge of optical performance measurements and reliability testing
- Experience developing qualification test plans and procedures
- Familiarity with Telcordia and related optical qualification standards
Experiences
- Desired:
- Experience working with contract manufacturers
- Experience with optical transceivers, silicon photonics, or data center interconnect products
- Experience with automated optical alignment and test systems
- Background in reliability engineering methodologies
