Responsibilities
  • Know and actively demonstrate, daily, the Company Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Maintain uniform standard, as detailed in the Employee Manual, for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, using the Guest Services script; offer the 5% discount, ask for the Specs Key, call guests by name if possible, offer additional items, offer the opportunity to give to the charity of the month, and thank the guest for their business.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner, looking up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add‑on items, including the charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers to ensure accurate amounts are charged to the guest.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction; never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
  • Check acceptable identification using 36 sign‑in to ensure a legal sale; use best practices and remain professional when checking IDs.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise; use bags as business‑minded, double‑bag only when asked by the guest for multiple bottle orders; use boxes; bottle protectors only when necessary.
  • Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on the daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
  • Keep work area clean, neat, and avoid overstocking the counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, ensuring all needed tools, such as register paper and paper bags, are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time‑management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Manage stress in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Stand for most of the shift, bend and walk occasionally; use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift; lift or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools; push or pull 50–100 pounds or more occasionally.
  • Communicate with and understand team members and guests; see product and payment methods.
  • Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Other projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • May have to clean the restroom.
  • Attendance and timeliness are required.
Qualifications
  • Prior experience in retail or customer service preferred.
  • Familiarity with cash handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic math for cash transactions; ability to calculate discounts and percentages.
  • Strong communication skills, including phone etiquette.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; experience may substitute.
  • Age 21 or older, as required by state law for Spec's.
  • Valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit (and Food Handlers Permit if required); must complete the TABC course within 2–3 hours.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, balance; lift or move up to 25lbs regularly and up to 50lbs or more occasionally; push or pull 50–100lbs or more occasionally.
Hours

Full‑time is typically 35hours per week. Must be available to work any shift on Friday or Saturday and must be available for 80% or more of all shifts each week. Part‑time is up to 25hours per week.

Work Environment & Conditions

Provide a fun and positive environment to serve guests; exposure to outside weather conditions may occur during delivery. Noise level is usually moderate.

Physical Demands

The job regularly requires standing, walking, and bending; use of arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift; climbing and balance; communicating and understanding. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
