Position Overview

This is an experienced‑level underground construction role supporting NISS’s mine‑development and infrastructure projects. The Experienced Underground Miner (Construction) is responsible for safely executing construction‑focused tasks such as shotcrete, ventilation, air door installation, concrete slabs, utilities placement, material handling, and equipment operation. Underground Construction & Development
  • Perform construction‑focused tasks such as installing ground support, setting utilities, building ventilation structures, constructing bulkheads.
  • Execute work according to engineered plans, site standards, and supervisor direction.
Equipment Operation
  • Safely operate underground construction equipment including loaders, scissor decks, jacklegs, telehandlers, man‑lifts, and other specialized tools.
  • Maintain proper body mechanics and safe‑work techniques to protect personnel and equipment.
Infrastructure & Utility Installation
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of ventilation ducting, water lines, electrical services, pump stations, and other underground infrastructure.
  • Support material movement, staging, and organization to maintain efficient workflow.
Ground Conditions & Environmental Awareness
  • Continuously monitor ground conditions and environmental factors, reporting hazards immediately.
  • Adjust work practices to maintain safe and productive operations in variable conditions.
Professionalism & Conduct
  • Maintain a reputation for reliability, accountability, and strong work ethic.
  • Represent NISS professionally in all interactions with coworkers, supervisors, and client personnel.
Regulatory & Policy Compliance
  • Comply with all NISS policies, site rules, state regulations, and federal MSHA standards.
  • Participate in required training, safety meetings, and competency evaluations.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of 1 year underground mining or underground construction experience. Training will be provided.
  • Certification:
    Valid and current MSHA required.
  • Availability:
    Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as scheduled; comfortable living in a remote camp while on rotation.
  • Punctuality:
    Must arrive on time, prepared to receive assignments and begin work at shift start.
  • Physical Demands:
    Capable of performing heavy work as defined by the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, including lifting, carrying, climbing, shoveling, prying, and working in confined spaces.
  • Work Environment:
    Ability to work safely around moving equipment, in low‑visibility areas, and within confined underground environments.
  • Aptitude:
    Ability to understand construction drawings, follow engineered instructions, and apply advanced safety strategies.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Advanced

    Certifications:

    Shotcrete experience, or specialty equipment certifications.
  • Leadership:
    Prior supervisory, lead‑miner, or construction‑crew leadership experience.
