Position Overview

The Metallurgical Technician provides critical operational, technical, and analytical support to Bunker Hill Mine’s processing facilities. This role is responsible for collecting, preparing, analyzing, and documenting metallurgical samples to support plant performance, process control, and production optimization. The Metallurgical Technician is an active leader in Bunker Hill’s zero‑incident safety culture and works closely with Operations, Engineering, Environmental, and Health & Safety teams.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collect representative samples from stockpiles, conveyors, and process slurry streams using approved sampling techniques.
  • Prepare samples for analysis, including vacuum filtration, drying ovens, moisture determination, and other laboratory preparation methods.
  • Conduct on‑site metallurgical testing to assess plant performance, mineral/metal content, moisture, and other relevant properties.
  • Document, track, and manage sample data including location, time, method, and chain of custody in logs or databases.
  • Coordinate sampling schedules and shipment of samples for off‑site laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain, inspect, and calibrate sampling and laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Monitor and analyze plant performance data and communicate trends, deviations, and concerns to Operations and Engineering.
  • Provide technical support to plant operations and maintenance, including troubleshooting metallurgical and process issues.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to maximize throughput, recovery, and utilization of installed equipment.
  • Respond to and investigate significant deviations from production plans and operating targets.
  • Collaborate with Environmental and Safety departments to support industrial hygiene, inspections, and regulatory compliance.
Position Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with metallurgical or process sampling equipment and laboratory techniques.
  • Working knowledge of safe sample collection, preparation, and documentation practices.
  • Ability to collect representative samples from industrial processing environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with operations, maintenance, and technical teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to work safely in an active mining and processing environment.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Technical training or coursework in mineral processing, metallurgy, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in mineral processing plants or metallurgical laboratories.
  • Knowledge of crushing, grinding, classification, flotation, dewatering, pumping, and material handling systems.
  • Experience with process control systems and metallurgical data management software.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, and plant inspections in mining operations.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand, walk, kneel, reach, and/or sit for extended periods in an industrial environment.
  • Work on uneven, rock‑strewn, wet, snowy, icy, muddy, or slick surfaces.
  • Ability to climb, stoop, bend, twist, reach, mount, and dismount equipment using three points of contact.
  • Move head and neck repeatedly and maintain situational awareness.
  • Ability to hear, see, and respond to audible alarms, voices, hand signals, and visual indicators.
  • Wear required PPE including steel‑toe footwear, hard hat, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • Read, write, and verbally communicate instructions and technical information in individual and group settings.
