The Opportunity

We’re seeking a skilled Mobile Trade Journeyperson Welder to join our team, based out of our West Kelowna shop.

As a Mobile Equipment Fabricator/Welder with Emil Anderson Equipment (EAE), you’ll carry out maintenance welding, custom fabrication, and structural repairs on mobile heavy equipment. Your attention to detail, precision, and dedication to high standards will help ensure our fleet stays dependable and downtime is kept to a minimum.

Although we are a union affiliated‑affiliated organization, being an active member is not a prerequisite.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks on fleet equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation.
  • Conduct inspections and upkeep of welding tools and equipment to maintain safety and efficiency.
  • Partner with maintenance and operations teams to swiftly complete repairs and reduce downtime.
  • Assist mechanics in diagnosing issues related to structural integrity and recommend welding or fabrication solutions
  • Fabricate custom parts, attachments, and components to extend equipment life or improve performance
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical documents, weldment models, and drawings accurately.
  • Mentor and support apprentices to foster their growth and trade skill development.
  • Keep workspaces clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Conduct pre-trip and pre-use inspections on mobile welding units; identify and report equipment issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work, parts used, and time allocations
  • Perform any additional tasks required to support team and project goals.

    Your Qualifications & Skills

  • Valid British Columbia Class 3 driver’s license with air-brake endorsement and a clean driving record is an asset.
  • Completion of a registered welding apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience; full Red Seal certification is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, including cutting, gouging, grinding, and other metal-working techniques.
  • Solid understanding of welding standards (e.g. AWS, ASME), metallurgy, and material selection.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting detailed shop drawings, CAD/CAE designs, and technical blueprints.
  • Experience operating CNC plasma tables—setting up jobs, adjusting parameters, loading/unloading, and conducting finish work.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to work independently or collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Proficiency in understanding CAD software ability to create/interpret 2D/3D designs, weldment models, and detailed shop drawings. Must understand welding standards (AWS, ASME, etc.), interpreting blueprints, specifying material types, tolerances, and joint designs. Experience with fabrication workflows, CNC/CAM integration, dimensioning, and ensuring designs are manufacturable and meet structural and safety codes is essential.
