Position Summary
The  Building Systems Technician  performs duties associated with the maintenance and repair of the venue's mechanical operating systems and is responsible for effective preventative and planned maintenance of site assets as well as troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, and plumbing at the venue. The employee has an opportunity to grow and progress with business and develop a career in facility maintenance.

This role pays an hourly rate of $19.00-$25.00 CAD.

Responsibilities

Assists with the overall daily operation and maintenance of the mechanical systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC), Okanagan Hockey Group Training Centre (OHGTC), Penticton Trade & Convention Centre (PTCC) and Memorial Arena (MA)

Performs skilled and semi‑skilled tasks in the maintenance of the facilities' mechanical equipment

Assists with event and operational tasks as needed to help the overall success of the venues

Troubleshoots necessary mechanical system repairs throughout the facility.

Works effectively in a service‑oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.

Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work, including staff, contractors, and facility users.

Qualifications

High school diploma (or equivalent)

Specialized training and/or diploma in HVAC, Electrical or other related venue mechanical operating system(s)

Experience in general maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other related venue mechanical systems

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Ability to function in fast‑paced, constantly changing, high‑pressure environment

Demonstrates attention to detail

Fork and Scissor Lift Certification

Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software and general computer understanding of basic IT functions

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Familiarity with Work Safe BC, BC Safety Authority and CSA standards and regulations as related to facilities

Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations

Strong problem‑solving skills

Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects
