Position Details: 7.0 hrs/day, 7:30am to 3:00pm; 191 days/year.

Potential reduction hours due to Wednesday early release, early dismissals for parent conferences, holidays, and last day of school; reduction hours subject to change. Job assignment and/or building assignment are subject to change based on program needs determined by the district.

Pay Range: PSE 1 Salary Schedule

The Social and Emotional Learning para educators accelerate student growth in social-emotional competencies and support a positive school climate and culture. The social Emotional Learning para educator will collaborate with administration and counselors in order to support and address social-emotional wellness of Tier 2 students. Ongoing collaboration with classroom teachers and all support staff is inherent to this position in an effort to build instructional capacity in the area of social emotional learning among staff.

Social Emotional Learning para educators provide professional learning in evidence-based Social Emotional practices with support from the District Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Collaborate with current administration, mental health providers, counselors, and teachers to support schools in social emotional learning framework implementation and address social emotional wellness.
  • Build and participate in the implementation of a continuum of social/emotional services to support all students within a school, including direct support of student intervention
  • Reviews school-wide data and assessment data to assist buildings in designing school-wide interventions and support SEL competencies
  • Demonstrate and maintain productive and positive interpersonal skills
  • Assists students in a group or on an individual basis with specific instructional tasks and/or specific student goals for the purpose of accommodating their development and growth
  • Communicates with teachers and other members of the instructional team regarding assigned students' daily progress for the purpose of assessing students' progress
  • Gathers, compiles, and prepares data of observations of student performance in academic and school activities for the purpose of monitoring and reporting progress with identified goals
  • Participates in training for the purpose of learning new skills relevant to working with students with challenging and disruptive behaviors
  • Maintain student confidentiality according to HIPAA and FERPA guidelines
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities Supervise students in the cafeteria, classroom, on school grounds and in the community as needed Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
  • Previous experience or training in working with challenging youth preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teachers, colleagues, parents & students Demonstrated ability to be patient, dedicated, reliable, mature, and committed
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various groups and gain consensus related to project implementation and other problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in activities and responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under the direction of the classroom teacher, while accepting direction and constructive criticism.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically Demonstrated ability to work with student records and data collection
  • Ability to effectively supervise students in all school areas
  • Willingness to participate in classroom team meetings, in-service offerings and local workshops
