Position: Para-Title/Parent Liaison
Location: Butler Acres Elementary School
Position Details3 hrs/day, 12:10 pm to 3:10 pm; 191 days/year. Potential reduction hours due to Wednesday early release, early dismissals for parent conferences, holidays, and last day of school; reduction hours subject to change. Job assignment and/or building assignment are subject to change based on program needs determined by the district.

Paid time off and other benefits are offered in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Public School Employees of Kelso Chapter #1.
Essential Functions- Use technology to support positive ongoing communication with families.
- Run small group instruction.
- Plan and support family nights.
- Support classrooms that are in overload.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
- Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
- Remain flexible in working with changing priorities.
- Willingness to learn and apply new skills to accommodate a changing work environment.
- Perform all other responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Possess positive and effective human relations skills, including a friendly and caring attitude towards all patrons of the school district in both verbal and written business communication.
- Relate successfully to students of all ages.
- Handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically.
- Work with student records and data collection.
- Work effectively as a team member and analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions, and determine resolutions or action plans.
- Be accurate, detail oriented, organized, dependable, tactful, and responsible, including delegating office tasks and coordinating others’ workflow.
- Use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation in written and oral communication; be proficient in mathematics and read technical information.
- Multi-task with constant interruptions, be self‑motivated toward assigned tasks, work independently with limited supervision, work well under pressure, and consistently meet required deadlines.
- Accept direction and constructive criticism.
- Upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
- Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and present themselves as a positive role model for students; work apparel should be appropriate for a safe and professional environment.
- Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma and/or equivalent.
- Meet at least one of the following:
- Hold an AA degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or above from an accredited college or university.
- Received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) para educator assessment.
- Completed an apprenticeship as a para educator in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
- Complete training on the Fundamental Course of Study within the timelines described in RCW 28A.413.070 in years that the program is funded by the legislature.
