Job Description

The CTE Automotive teacher specializes in combining hands‑on learning with academic instruction in automotive technology. They deliver lessons on vehicle mechanics, maintenance, and repair, ensuring students gain practical and theoretical knowledge. The role collaborates with local automotive businesses to facilitate real‑world experience through internships or on‑site projects. With a strong focus on safety and the latest industry standards, the teacher helps prepare students for careers in the automotive field.

Essential

Functions
  • Develop automotive curriculum in accordance with district policies and state guidelines.
  • Ase certified in at least the following areas: brakes, electrical, engine performance, and steering/suspension.
  • Ability to relate to high school‑aged students.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of an instructional team.
  • Demonstrated positive human relations skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior; first aid/CPR certificate required.
  • Teach leadership and employability skills as part of the class and part of CTSO.
  • Provide an effective instructional environment.
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate records and assist in completing state reports.
  • Maintain financial records pertaining to the program.
  • Attend and participate in staffing, department, district and employer meetings as needed.
  • Meet with district and CTE administration on a regular basis to ensure successful program implementation.
  • Communicate students' progress to students and parents through conferences or reports.
  • Participate in IEP planning sessions as appropriate.
  • Provide supervision of students in the classroom and on the school premises as required.
  • Participate in professional growth opportunities (training plan for conditional certified employees).
  • Assist with co‑curricular activities as necessary.
  • Articulate programs with Lower Columbia College.
  • Act as a liaison between the business community, students, and staff.
  • Use technology related to classroom applications in Automotive Foundations classroom.
  • Develop and implement an effective plan to recruit students for the programs, and work with counseling staff to ensure appropriate placement.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Qualifications
  • A valid Washington State Career and Technical Education Certificate in Technology Education (Preferred VCODE(s) V470603, V470600, V210100) or the ability to be vocationally certified.
  • Five years of automotive work experience preferred; two years within the past five years.
  • Bi‑ or multilingual desired.
  • Knowledge of current trends in Career and Technical Education.
  • Strong skills and background in instructional methods including cooperative learning, questioning strategies and concept development.
  • Ability to develop and adapt curriculum to students' interests and learning styles.
  • Ability to plan instructional strategies to meet varied student needs.
  • Ability to develop curriculum aligned with Common Core, 21st Century Leadership Skills and program‑specific CTE Standards and Competencies.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically.
  • Successful experience working with high school students and students with disabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member with administration, staff, parents and students.
