Job assignment and/or building assignment are subject to change based on program needs determined by the district.
We are seeking an exceptional team member to expand our special education team.
Essential Functions- Participate in development and implementation of IEPs, FBAs, BIPs, ERPs for special education students
- Undertake the timely submission of IEPs and progress reports
- Plan and implement learning activities for students with varied abilities
- Organize programs to provide for individualized differences
- Maintain current Crisis Prevention Institute Training
- Evaluate, develop, and modify curriculum for individual student needs in general education and special education classrooms
- Demonstrate knowledge of behavior de-escalation techniques and positive support plans
- Demonstrate skill in preparing special education students to meet state essential learnings
- Demonstrate the ability to relate to all students in a warm, accepting manner
- Demonstrate knowledge and application of growth and development of school-age children
- Maintain appropriate student records and continuous measurement data on student progress
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill in organizing and maintaining the educational setting
- Conduct conferences with parents to report student progress toward meeting IEP goals and objectives and progress in core content areas
- Communicate and interpret the school program to parents and patrons
- Work cooperatively with staff members
- Supervise instructional assistants
- Use group process skills
- Collaborate and co-teach
- Cooperate as a team member in staffing, diagnosis, and least restrictive placement of disabled students
- Exhibit personal traits that make him/her a good role model for students
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and learning
- Accept both routine and special tasks
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
- A valid Washington State teaching certificate with Special Education Endorsement
- Knowledge of current trends in curriculum and instructional techniques
- Academic preparation and/or experience in special education
- Knowledge and skills in educational technology and ability to integrate technology into instruction
- Willingness and ability to work cooperatively with administration, parents, and staff
- Skills in diagnostic testing and remediation of learning problems
- Expertise and experience in behavior management
- Ability to work effectively with students and parents
- Ability to adapt curriculum to students' interests and learning styles
- Experience working with disabled students of various ages/levels
- Awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and ability to set appropriate expectations
- Bilingual or multilingual desired
- Knowledge of essential learnings and ability to integrate them into the classroom
- Use of a variety of assessment strategies, including preparation for state required testing
- Desire to continue professional growth
- Team working ability
- Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures
- Fulfill all other responsibilities as assigned
