Behavior Guidance Coordinator

The Behavior Guidance Coordinator is responsible for the disability content area for the three-five year olds in the toddler and preschool setting. The Behavior Guidance Coordinator provides classroom observations and guidance to assess behavior, offering strengths-based feedback and modeling developmentally appropriate, trauma responsive strategies for teaching staff, children and families. Will work closely with the Preschool Supervisor, Infant Toddler Supervisor, Child Care Supervisor, Mentor Coordinator and the Mental Health Consultant.

Essential Functions

  • Provides comprehensive guidance, including appropriate strategies and follow-up to teaching staff who work directly with children experiencing behavioral concerns
  • Creates a positive atmosphere for children; assist with effective transitions between activities, modeling for parents through the implementation of Creative Curriculum, Dena'ina Language and Culture and consistent use of appropriate social/emotional skills through the Conscious Discipline model as adopted by the Kenaitze Education Department
  • Participates in attending an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) or IFSP (Indivdualized Family Service Plan) meeting with Kenai Peninsula Borough School District and/or Infant Learning Program and any other Social Services group and families
  • Establishes and maintains professional, accurate, and timely documentation in the Child Plus Data system
  • Assists teaching staff in defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching replacement behavior; and data collection in response to the implementation of behavioral intervention
  • Promotes highly specialized and evidence-based positive behavior interventions in which students thrive; behavior instruction that is individualized, explicit, intensive, accelarated and provides ample practice
  • Uses ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress
  • Facilitates team meetings with the identified student's teachers and parents for the purpose of completing a functional behavioral plan
  • Participates in trauma informed professional development
  • Facilitates family events to promote engagement and useful strategies beyond implementation
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance
