Job Summary

The Preschool Teacher's main responsibility is to create a positive and enriching environment, which promotes the growth and development of up to 20 children and their families. The Preschool Teacher maintains on-going communication and contact with families while working in collaboration with other program components (health, nutrition, family services, and mental health) to integrate educational goals and developmentally appropriate practices into the family setting.

The Preschool Teacher encourages the health and well-being of each child by following performance standards. In addition to social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development, The Preschool Teacher prepare children for a successful transition into the public school system.

Essential Functions
  • Collaboratively develops and utilizes developmentally appropriate lesson plans which reflect mandated elements; component work plans; parental and cultural influences; social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of children; and the eight domains and outcomes
  • Maintains accurately written records and data entry in database system
  • Follows a consistent schedule which includes small and large group experiences, Dena'ina language, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals with children in family style, effective activity transitions, social skills curriculum
  • Responsible for classroom management; child/staff ratio; guiding and mentoring Early Learning Aides and volunteers during class and on field trips; and delegation of responsibilities to team members according to their abilities, development, and skills to ensure that all classroom activities are conducted
  • Encourages and schedules regular parent volunteers in classroom; regular Parent Engagement activities/meetings; and planned family events which may require working occasional evenings
  • Participates in training, professional development, and regularly scheduled team meetings to plan for and deliver collaborative services which may require working evenings or weekends
  • Plans and facilitates the development of Family Partnerships Agreements (FPA) with parents of students through establishment of mutual trust relationships and the identification of family strengths, goals, needed services, and support
  • Assists families in achieving goals by coordinating support services, making contacts with agencies, providing transportation resources, and scheduling appointments
  • Conducts a minimum of two home visit per school year with each family; may conduct other home visits for purposes of assessment and support, and to share information on parenting, educational strategies, and classroom progress
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance
