Alaska Power & Telephone is hiring for a full-time Metering Program Lead to own metering related work across our systems, working out of an AP&T office or a home-based location in Alaska or the Pacific Northwest. This position works in the field and travels to remote sites as needed.

This position is remote eligible but employee must resides in Alaska, Washington, or Idaho.

The Metering Program Lead is responsible for leading metering-related work (ordering, configuration, and programming), supporting Properties and Billing with metering issues, managing metering upgrade rollouts, and helping standardize metering practices and documentation across AP&T.

AP&T is an employee-owned, vertically integrated utility that independently owns and operates ten isolated power systems across a large expanse of Alaska. We incorporate hydro, solar and diesel resources to provide economic power to the communities we serve. As a small utility we offer a diversity of experience. We work together to safely integrate innovative new generation resources, renewables, address day-to-day operational issues, install and maintain equipment, address regulatory requirements and other such tasks.

The successful candidate will take ownership of AP&T's metering program and provide leadership on a variety of metering projects across our service territory.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Specify, procure, and manage meters, current transformers (CTs), potential transformers (PTs), and related metering equipment
  • Configure and program meters and communication devices
  • Develop and maintain metering standards including meter forms, settings, and documentation
  • Oversee commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of metering systems
  • Lead and document the meter audit program
  • Support regulatory documentation requirements
  • Support Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems
  • Work with Billing to validate meter data and resolve discrepancies
  • Investigate revenue losses and ensure metering accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with applicable metering standards, NESC, NEC and State of Alaska requirements
  • Lead metering upgrade projects, including AMI deployments and retrofits
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, MIS, vendors, and contractors
  • Support and provide guidance to metering personnel
  • Provide field support and travel to remote sites as needed
  • Ensure safe work practices and compliance with safety procedures
Required Qualifications:
  • 2- or 4-year degree in electrical/electronics engineering technology or a related technical field, OR equivalent journeyman-level metering/electrical experience
  • Five or more years of hands-on electric metering experience — installation, configuration, programming, and testing of self-contained and instrument-rated (CT/PT) metering
  • Working knowledge of CTs, PTs, and revenue metering accuracy
  • Ability to interpret and apply metering standards, NESC, and NEC requirements
  • Ability to self-motivate, manage time, plan projects, and communicate with other team members
  • Ability to safely identify hazards and work around energized electrical equipment
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office and metering/communication software tools
  • Current passport and ability to travel to remote sites, up to 30% of workload (reduced if in or near AP&T-served communities)
  • Mental flexibility, willingness to learn unfamiliar parts of the job, and a positive attitude
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
Desired

Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Landis + Gyr and Aclara metering and software tools (for both powerline and RF systems)
